The Côte d’Azur or Azure Coast has long since been a playground for the rich and famous. The area from north west Italy along the Mediterranean Sea to southern France is called the French Riviera or the Côte d’Azur. The area is warm because the Alpes block the cold air from the North. The major towns of the French Riviera are Nice, Antibes, Cannes and St. Tropez. The Cote D’Azur was made famous by royalty in the 19th Century, by artists in the 20th century and musicians and actors in the 21st century.
Home to the world’s jet set, the French Riviera is a magnificent place to visit. Stretching from Monaco to Saint Tropez, the Cote d’Azur has become the holiday destination for the French and for the rest of the world.
The glitzy Croisette in Cannes, the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and Pampelonne Beach near Saint Tropez; just three reasons why the Cote d’Azur is host to so many holidaymakers every summer. The weather here during the summer months is usually exceptional with temperatures in the 30′s and sometimes even touching the 40′s and there is very little rain at this time of the year. The area can boast up to 320 days of sunshine per year.
Nice is the capital of the Cote d’Azur being France’s fourth city and nearby Antibes is renowned for its sailing and luxury yachts, boasting 50% of the world’s super yacht fleet. Saint Tropez is further west and is known more for its beach party atmosphere as well as a centre for fine dining and shopping. And all this within the walls of a quaint little fishing village.
